Citizens & Political Rights

The everyday rights that make citizenship real — to information, to vote, to associate, to be heard. We research how those rights are protected, denied or eroded across Pakistan's four provinces and federal capital.

What this focus area covers.

Each focus area is structured around four to six durable sub-themes — research questions that recur and need consistent, longitudinal evidence rather than one-off studies.

Sub-theme 1

Right to Information (RTI)

Implementation of provincial and federal RTI laws — request volumes, response rates, appellate outcomes and public-body compliance. Cross-province comparative work.

Sub-theme 2

Voter rights & registration

The integrity of the electoral roll, voter-registration gender gaps, polling-day access for women and minorities, and overseas-voter inclusion.

Sub-theme 3

Civic space & freedoms

Freedom of assembly, association and expression. NGO regulation, journalist safety and digital-rights restrictions.

Sub-theme 4

Minority rights

Religious-minority political representation, electoral participation, hate-crime documentation and the implementation of constitutional protections.
